The mother of three, the main earner in their family, with their partner earning half as much as them, previously had to borrow money from their parents to travel for work. To avoid that, they are now £1,200 in debt, using a credit card to cover travel costs, as most of their salary goes on childcare, rent and essentials for the children.

Of course there was the promise of more money to assure appropriate supports both in their residences as well as in public schools. Fast forward to now and kids that we were serving in quite contained settings with mutiple childcare staff are now being seen in the public school system with far less supports than we provided in the 80s.

This is just families getting money to spend as they see fit, much like we already give to, for example, foster parents, when they are caring for children. We give families money. We give families money so they can keep their own family safe. The way forward All of that to me feels like the path forward.

The school gets all the profits from all those chocolate bars – and that’s an incredible amount of money. They have a bottomless pit of money that they can use any way they please. It’s a boarding school for impoverished students – and boarding is required, even for students who live nearby. But Hershey is the epitome of selfishness.
