Government shifts £600m destined for social care reform into tackling immediate pressures on services

The government has moved £600m originally destined for social care reform into helping councils meet existing pressures on adults’ services over the next two years. Most of the funding – £570m – is designed to increase the capacity of the workforce – with vacancy rates hitting 9.9% as of March this year – though councils may also use it to tackle waiting times for care or assessments or to increase provider fees.
