The NHS will be given the majority of a £500m fund for adult social care, designed to speed up hospital discharge and bolster the care workforce. 13,000 people stuck in hospitals. Currently, more than 13,000 people who are medically fit for discharge are stuck in hospital every day.

Beverley Tarka this week became the first black president of the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services (ADASS) since its establishment in 2007. At the same time, much of the resource it has provided is directed towards clearing hospital beds, rather than the vision of social care as a vehicle for better lives.
