UNISON has announced a fresh round of strikes after its members overwhelmingly rejected an improved pay offer for local government staff in Scotland. Nine in ten members who voted rejected the offer from employers’ body COSLA, on a 57% turnout, after UNISON members had taken strike action in schools over it last month.

If your child isn’t sleeping well at night or expresses fear about attending school, that may not be anxiety as you thought. Again, ask your kid about violence literally in the classroom, let alone the school yard. They were all unrelated.

DfE merges schools and children’s social care responsibilities under new minister

The Department for Education (DfE) has merged responsibilities for children’s social care and schools under new minister Kelly Tolhurst. In line with previous ministers for schools, her role will be at the mid-ranking minister of state level, a more senior post than the junior ministerial status held by her five social care predecessors.

Of course there was the promise of more money to assure appropriate supports both in their residences as well as in public schools. This government provides neither. These were kids who due to their behavior could not be served in the community.

Announcing the election, Sunak referenced global security, defence spending, NHS investment, funding for local transport, schools standards, welfare reform, immigration levels, sending asylum seekers to Rwanda and his plans to prevent future generations from buying cigarettes. Taking this forward will be a decision for the next government.
