Last month, the New York Law Journal published an excellent article about the Family Justice Law Center. But assuming the flack is correct, what that really tells us is that a minimum of 98% of what ACS does is b t. with foster care now at all-time low of less than 7,200 children.

In child welfare, we all say the same things, but we all mean different things by what we say: Nobody ever says: “I think foster care should be the first resort!” Because even if Maine had all the help families need, in the current climate of foster-care panic , caseworkers are going to be afraid to use it.

That contributes to foster-care panics , sharp, sudden increases in children needlessly torn from their homes. They’ve issued a series of demands, directed at the Board of Supervisors, which would, at long last, bring a measure of racial justice to Los Angeles child welfare. I am proud to work with both groups.

A question for any journalists reading this: Suppose you were working on a story about the criminal justice system, and a prosecutor said: “ By definition , anyone in jail is a criminal – they’re rapists and torturers and all sorts of other crooks.”
