Breakdown makes a sound case in favor of Assisted Outpatient Treatment (AOT), an evidence-based tool that’s widely underutilized. AOT helps a subset of the population with serious mental illness who are not adhering to their recommended outpatient treatment plans. Court order is vastly preferred because of the black robe effect.
