Typically, in the first appointment we will provide an assessment in order to develop a shared understanding about the nature of the difficulties and think about a treatment plan.

I can authorize involuntary transfers of patients to hospitals. If they don’t qualify for inpatient, I can refer them to outpatient treatment programs or give them self-help material. When patients with serious mental illness are not in jail or hospitalized, crisis can occur anywhere. My job is to make this happen.
