For the second time this year, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has announced that it is extending telehealth prescribing of opioids and other controlled substances. The DEA's latest extension is now set to run through 2024.

The DEA received more than 38,000 comments and recently held two days of public listening sessions. Advocates supporting the extension emphasized its vital role in ensuring access to pain-relieving medication, particularly for individuals in hospice or palliative care.
