Hospitals are dropping contracts with private Medicare plans.

In response to the delays and burdens of prior authorizations, as well as high rates of improper denials, some hospitals are beginning to terminate their relationships with Medicare Advantage (MA) plans, according to recent reports in Becker’s Healthcare. If these trends continue, roughly 31 million Medicare beneficiaries will face obstacles to necessary acute care and some medical services. With Senate investigations into delays and denials and industry calls to reform the MA program, clinicians and providers are anticipating changing relationships with these powerful market players.
