Palliative Care and Hospital Transfers in Veterans Treated in Telecritical Care-Supported ICUs

Study examines the correlation between palliative care utilization and hospital transfers for veterans in telecritical care-supported intensive care units (ICUs) vs. non-telecritical care intensive care units.

A study published in the Journal of Pain and Symptom Management sought to understand the impact of telecritical care (TCC) implementation on care delivery in patients with serious illness across the Veterans' Health Administration system in ICUs. The authors found that TCC is associated with increased palliative care consults and evaluations, and a reduction in transfers, though independent of each intervention.
