Concurrent hospice care has more flexibilities.

The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI) has extended the timeframe for its Medicare Advantage Value-Based Insurance Design model (MA VBID) to run through 2030. As a reminder, this model has two components: one for MA benefits overall, and one that “carves in” hospice benefits into MA. In the general/overall extension, MA plans are required to offer supplemental benefits to address health-related social needs in at least two of the following: food, transportation, and housing. Under the hospice carve-in, MA plans will be allowed to offer hospice benefits concurrently with curative treatments for a time period they select; the original requirements limited concurrent hospices benefits to 30 days only.
