Study integrated a patient-caregiver portal to learn of patient and caregiver preferences and needs, alerting the care team.

A recent study published in JMIR Human Factors reports on the implementation of a patient-caregiver portal system, which allows patients living with cancer, and their caregivers, to communicate their preferences. By making updates to an existing portal system, they sought to: a) allow patients to specify their caregiver and communication preferences; b) connect the specified caregiver to a specific page to share their needs; c) and share both responses with the care team, electronically. The authors found that integrating this portal provided a solution to identify the needs of patients and their caregivers, which was also beneficial for clinical care.
