New cancer-focused payment model demonstration from the CMMI could create opportunities for palliative care providers.

The Center for Medicare & Medicaid Innovation (CMMI) has introduced the Enhancing Oncology Model (EOM), a payment model aimed at improving cancer care coordination. CAPC Chief Health Care Transformation Officer, Allison Silvers, told Palliative Care News that, although not explicitly mentioned, the model aligns with palliative care.

The EOM focuses on seven types of cancer and aims to provide better support, understanding, and adherence to treatment for patients. Participating providers offer comprehensive care plans, including symptom management and psychosocial support. The model builds on the previous Oncology Care Model and allows financial partnerships with care partners, including those offering palliative care.
