Default Palliative Care Consultation for Seriously Ill Hospitalized Patients

JAMA study shows an increase in palliative care consultation and timing when it is ordered by default (with the ability for clinicians to opt-out).

A study published in JAMA sought to find if ordering palliative care by default would increase consultation and improve clinical outcomes for seriously ill hospitalized patients. The authors found that while the consults did not significantly reduce length of stay, it did improve the rate and timing of consultation s, and more.
