Experiences of Seriously Ill LGBTQ+ Patients and Partners with their Health Care Providers
In a recent open-access article published in Health Affairs Scholar, authors Gary L. Stein, JD, MSW, et al. sought to understand the experiences of LGBTQ+ patients and partners with their health care providers. Through an online survey, they wanted to determine the extent to which LGBTQ+ patients and partners experienced disrespectful or inadequate health care due to sexual orientation or gender identity.
They found that 290 participants reported high levels of disrespectful and inadqauate care, and there were significantly higher rates of discrimination experienced by Black and Hispanic patients.
