What Button are You Pushing?

Dear Readers,

The other day, when I volunteered reading menus to older people, a woman was complaining her clock didn’t work. I tried to fix it, but to no avail. The next time I saw her, it was working! It turns out the clock was connected to a light switch, and she had turned that off. She told me, “I just have to push the right button.”

I started laughing, and told her I had just pushed the wrong button myself on my phone and accidentally hung up on somebody. Her next comment was priceless. “I guess that applies to life. Just push the right button.”

Maybe the button I will push today will be the right one, to leave an upbeat message to a friend, to family member, or push to send someone a small surprise gift. I am trying to push more positive message buttons, rather than the critical ones.

I’m sure there is a larger meaning in this, but I tend to think so literally, I sometimes miss analogies. Whatever button I push, I will make it a happy one for Mr. Untipsy, who is now vacuuming for me. Perhaps that is the oven button to bake cookies! (Assuming I know which button to push to turn the oven on! Yes, that has happened before!)

With A Million Layers for Our Walk,

On Day 3032,

Wendy

PS – Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas to Everyone!

  1. Dear Wendy,

For several years now, you have been a guiding light and a joy in my sobriety journey (I’ve stopped drinking August, 2018). I’ve appreciated your posts, reveled in your joys, shared your sorrows, and appreciated your insights and loving sharing.

Pushing the right buttons is indeed a key to good living! More and more, when I’m faced with something that’s upsetting, I realize that I’m making a (bad) choice to stay in the anger instead of letting it go, getting joyful, and moving forward. It’s insightful for me to see that character defect in myself: why do I want to live in the upset? Push the right button and move onward.

I love your pictures, too! After many years of living in Chicago, I miss those cold, blue sky days following a snow storm! Used to love long bundled-up walks on days like that.

All the best to you and Mr. Untipsy for a joyful Christmas and a happy, healthy, and prosperous New Year. Thank you for the joy you bring to my life!

    Best,

    Jeremy

    1. It’s so good to hear from you, Jeremy! Also great you have stayed sober!
Sometimes I just can’t push the right button, then someone, usually Mr. UT has to fix it!
Or I keep trying and get it.
      Merry Christmas!

  3. Really love this Wendy, Merry Christmas!!! I’m impressed that you’re still getting out for walks, perhaps I should try that today, it IS going to get above zero, after all. Thanks as always for all the inspiration. Much love – Kelly (who is not going to drink today!!)

  4. Merry Christmas Wendy and Mr. UT! I always love reading your posts! This Christmas house prep and gift buying has been stressful for me. I have it all done and it’s Christmas morning! I’m laying in bed while everyone sleeps in awhile. It feels so good and peaceful. Can’t wait to see what next year brings for us! Hope you have a wonderful day!!! ❀️❀️❀️
