Re-Capping Teaching & Learning in SWK for 2021

One of my academic favorites is Dr. Katie Linder who produces a podcast called You’ve Got This, where she offers advice and examples for other academics as they navigate the world of higher education. Frequently, Katie talks about goal setting and how she works to accomplish her own goals. As I listened to her end-of-the-year podcast about her 2021 goals, all I could think about was my blog.

You see, every year, I set goals for this blog, and rarely do I accomplish these goals. Here is some of the evidence:

Review of Teaching & Learning in Social Work Blog Posts for 2016

I even tried to set goals for the first quarter of 2020 and publish only seven blog posts. Sigh! Here they are:

  1. Using LinkedIn for #SWVirtualPal
  2. Writing your values-based teaching philosophy
  3. How to define your Teaching Values
  4. Developing a Personalized Social Media Policy for Social Work Practice
  5. Internet Survival Guide for Social Workers
  6. Introducing our new @SWVirtualPal student co-hosts
  7. Ten Ways COVID-19 Created the Perfect Storm for Social Worker Burnout (and why I still have hope)

As I think about how to set goals for 2022, I do know the following:

  • About 1600 users visited my blog last year
  • Most people find my blog from Twitter
  • Several of my academic publications started as blog posts
  • My blog represents my efforts to engage in public scholarship – something I value

I also know that I will not beat myself up for not meeting my 2020 goals for the blog; instead, I will take this as an opportunity to re-imagine my motivation and vision for Teaching & Learning in Social Work. So, what would you like to see from this blog? What are your questions related to social work education? Higher education? Learning as a social work professional? I would love to hear your ideas! Please add your comments below.

In the meantime, I have updated the blog’s archive and list of assignments, both of which offer excellent overviews of content from Teaching and Learning in Social Work.
