Mental health social work research studies recruiting now
At the University of York there are a number of studies live at present which are gathering evidence for mental health social work practice. It is important to generate high response rates to improve the validity of these studies and their usefulness for practice. You may be able to help with this.
I have listed below some studies which are currently being conducted by social work practitioners who are in the final year of the Think Ahead programme at the University of York. Social work with migrants with no recourse to public funds
Jonathan Lacey is investigating the obstacles social workers face when working with migrants with no recourse to public funds and is exploring the ways in which they respond to these obstacles. He is recruiting registered social workers practising in England in all areas of social work.

Supervision for mental health professionals in forensic settings
Hannah Everitt is exploring which elements of supervision mental health professionals working in a forensic setting find most helpful in support of their wellbeing. She is recruiting qualified professionals who have worked in a forensic or secure setting in England for at least the last three months.

Alex Sharrock is exploring the experiences of social workers and drug & alcohol workers in supporting people who are experiencing mental health and substance abuse issues.

Compassion fatigue among care co-ordinators
Katherine Webb is investigating if the coping mechanisms that care co-ordinators use on a day to day basis impact on the development of compassion fatigue when they are experiencing burnout and secondary traumatic stress. She is recruiting care co-ordinators in community mental health teams in England.

Mica Rivers is exploring mental health professionals’ attitudes towards working with people whose mental distress is pre-empted and/or complicated by substance use. She is recruiting mental health professionals in England.

Dannielle Simon is exploring mental health social workers’ perspectives of wellbeing and/or mental health support available within the organisations they work for prior to Covid-19 and whether this support helps them to cope with work-related and personal pressures. She is recruiting mental health social workers working for a local authority or NHS Trust in England who has been qualified for at least 6 months.

Neha Lamech is exploring the experiences of racial, gender or sexual identity-based discrimination faced by frontline mental health staff from service users or their families. She is recruiting mental health professionals working in the UK.

Mental health practitioners disclosure of their own mental health difficulties
Kimberly Cooper is exploring the views and experiences of mental health practitioners and service users in relation to mental health practitioners sharing their lived experience of mental health problems with service users. She is recruiting mental health professionals who have shared their own mental health difficulties with a service user, and service users who have experienced a mental health professional sharing their own mental health difficulties with them.

Employment support in mental health teams
Olivia Barber is conducting research interviews via phone or video about employment support policy and interventions in mental health. She is recruiting mental health or employment support workers in mental health teams to participate in interviews. Please email ob798@york.ac.uk for more information.
Social workers’ understanding of social services entitlements of adult migrants
Zoe Hines is investigating social workers’ understanding of the social services entitlements of adult migrants with no recourse to public funds. She is recruiting social workers with experience of working with adults in England.

Social worker perspectives on wellbeing
Yvonne Fane is exploring how the work environment of Adult Social Workers based in community and/or hospital settings in England impacts their wellbeing. She is recruiting Adult Social Workers with a minimum of one year’s experience who are currently working in a hospital or community setting in England for a telephone interview.
Care leavers’ experience of their transition from Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services
Colleen Pattison is investigating the experiences of care leavers when they left Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) at the age of 18. She is recruiting young care leavers who are aged 18-25 and accessed CAMHS until the age of 18.

Mental health social workers and mindfulness practice
Roberto Picciau is undertaking an intervention study in which mental health social workers are provided with mindfulness instructional videos and asked to complete two questionnaires to evaluate their impact on stress and mental wellbeing. He is recruiting mental health social workers who do not currently use mindfulness meditation.

Len Collett is exploring the views of Approved Mental Health Professionals (AMHPs) on Community Treatment Orders. Specifically, he is exploring the views of AMHPs on their role in the Community Treatment Order process and the over-representation of people from a black or ethnic minority. He is recruiting AMHPs in England to complete an online survey.
