Yes, Men Get Abused. Shame Keeps It Hidden.

April 4, 2022

It isn’t often discussed, yet happens.

It is kept in the shadows, kept there in shame, disbelief and toxic masculinity.

It’s men affected by violence and coercive controlling behavior perpetrated by their female partners.

There are next to no formal public services for such men. They languish. They too suffer depression and/or anxiety.

Yes, statistically, the majority of those abused through intimate partner violence is disproportionately women, by a wide margin. This doesn’t exclude men though.

It happens and they need support too.

I do get there are those men who may feign being abused as a means to present themselves as a victim where this is nothing more than a ploy to gain some advantage in a dispute. So yes, we as always, must assess these situations as best as possible.

Yet… it still happens. Men abused by their intimate partner.

They too need support, legitimately and without stigma too.
