Man unlawfully deprived of liberty gets £355,000 council payout

A man who was unlawfully deprived of his liberty in a care home has won a £355,000 payout from the council that placed him there. Lawyers for the man, who is autistic and has learning disabilities, said Lancashire council admitted breaching his human rights and had agreed a £200,000 settlement and a payment of £155,000 for a deputy to manage his property and affairs on his behalf.

The fellow was going around town saying his wife was cheating on him. They came for counseling. Asking about alcohol consumption, the fellow in his 60’s had been consuming about 12 ounces of hard liquor daily. This current amount had been worked up to over the course of his adult life with considerable drinking throughout. His wife, a church member and otherwise quiet woman denied his accusations.

‘I feel out of my depth’: NQSWs report ‘unmanageable’ caseloads and lack of support

Newly qualified children’s social workers are struggling to manage their workloads leaving some questioning their future in the profession, Community Care’s annual caseloads survey has found. Almost a quarter of the 62 respondents doing their assessed and supported year in employment (ASYE) said their caseloads were “completely unmanageable” and a further almost half said theirs were “hard to manage”.

They too suffer depression and/or anxiety. Yes, statistically, the majority of those abused through intimate partner violence is disproportionately women, by a wide margin.

Adult social care vacancy rate hits 10%

The staff vacancy rate across adult social care services in England hit 10% last month, show figures released today. The rate rose from 9.8% in February, and continues the ongoing rise in staffing gaps since May 2021, when 5.9% of posts were vacant, according to Skills for Care’s adult social care workforce data set. At the same time, the number of filled posts in services has continued to fall, down 4.6% on March 2021 levels, compared with a 4.5% drop as of February this year.
