Family Lawyer – Be Mindful of Your Influence.

April 11, 2022

My open letter to family law lawyers….

—————

Dear Family Law Lawyer.

Please be mindful in the pursuit of your client’s wishes.

In so doing, please remind yourself and client that conflict itself is predictive of poor child outcomes. That children raised with parental tension and conflict are more apt to have issues of mental health, behavior and academic performance.

Let not your zealous advocacy on behalf of your client create the conditions and impacts your client would prefer to avoid once understanding these linkages.

Be there as an advocate for reason, judgment and peace.

Do so as a model of that which you would seek on behalf of your own children.

With that, serve your calling well. Support and educate your client in their pursuit of a reasonable family adjustment during scary and uncertain times.

Be there in such a way so as to contribute to peace.

Be a peacemaker.

With that, feel good about your involvement and let your practice grow.

Respectfully,

Gary Direnfeld, MSW, RSW
