The Myth of Multi-Tasking

February 14, 2022

Multi-tasking. Really?

Whenever I hear that I wonder about someone trying to carry out too many expectations simultaneously where something inevitably loses out.

That losing out may be one’s own well-being or the well-being of another or a relationship.

Truth is, we all only have so much capacity.

Perhaps more complex, it still may be more helpful to think of these actions:

Prioritizing

Planning

Scheduling

Setting boundaries.

Sure things will come up to take you off your game, however, practicing those skills can help you manage more successfully.

Perhaps the most vital skill?

Setting boundaries.

Learning when and what to say no to can be the most important skill to getting things done.

No. Politely. Firmly. Clearly. Directly.

Boundaries can be the answer from that takes you from supposed multi-tasking to achievement where your sanity remains more intact and people’s needs and relationships may be better met.

No. Politely. Firmly. Clearly. Directly.

Boundaries.

Give it a try. To that, say yes.
