Social prescribing is a lovely idea but it won’t make up for the care I’m not getting

SECTIONED

Social prescribing can only play a limited role in helping folks living with serious mental ill-health. A news story on social prescribing boomed out of my radio on Monday morning – another jolly report about how this was the way to manage long-term conditions in the community. NHS England had announced a plan to roll out the scheme across the country by recruiting 1,000 social prescribing “link workers” to support GPs and help people improve their health and well-being.

Fabric, feelings and fidget stars! Reflections on the emotional use of textiles in social work

Learning Social Worker

There is an emotionality associated with the making, the ownership, the giving and receiving, and the use of fabric objects. NPQ: The Organic Role of Libraries as Centers of Inclusiveness and Support

Michigan Girl's Café

The Nonprofit Quarterly (NPQ) has a very interesting story on the evolving role of public libraries as community centers. As a result, librarians are increasingly finding themselves in the role of social service provision, even though that was not their primary responsibilities (and certainly not their training in graduate school!). Public libraries are forming partnerships with social workers to become more inclusive and supportive in addressing the diverse needs of marginalized populations in

Care Leavers etc Part 2. The fight goes on.

The Vintage Social Worker

It is sad that I feel it to be a fight, I deleted that from the title twice because it seemed so negative. Maybe I mean a struggle. After so many years I still seem to be repeating myself so often about the way forward with the care system. When I saw the other day an article suggesting that a new social work model was to have consistent social workers who knew the individual and in whom they could trust I was lost, temporarily, for words!
