Are the failures of social work really just a matter of degree? (Image from Depositphotos ) Call it The Perennial Whine of the Licensed Social Worker. It crops up over and over when there’s any story about what family police agencies (a more accurate term than “child welfare” agencies) do to families. Most recently I saw it repeatedly in comments on the Washington Post story I discuss here , about a family traumatized by a midnight raid by the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families.

Supporting yourself or a loved one through Christmas when there is an eating disorder in the midst Christmas can be a very difficult and challenging time for people with eating disorders or difficult relationships with food. Whilst for some, the relaxing time that the festive break can bring may offer some reprieve, for others, the stress and distress only increases with the loss of structure, attendance at family events, and focus on food.

There has been a fivefold increase in the number of children’s social workers hired by councils as part of project teams supplied by employment agencies, directors have reported. The situation reflects a growing tendency on the part of agencies to restrict the supply of staff to teams, preventing local authorities from recruiting locums to fill individual vacancies, the Association of Directors of Children’s Services (ADCS) has warned.
