Social care funding promises slashed

Investment is needed to resolve recruitment and retention crisis in social care and social work, not more cuts.

Yesterday it emerged that a Government funding pledge of £500m to boost the social care workforce is being slashed in half.

Following years of chronic under-funding for adult social care, this underlines its low priority for this Government. There is currently a recruitment and retention crisis in social work which needs sustained investment to resolve. This announcement sets back any progress made to resolve this issue.

Talk Radio picked up this story and Petrie Hoskin interviewed me on her show last night. I provided some background to the problem and talked about the need for reform of the system which is long overdue.

You can listen to the interview here (starts at 12.30; free account required to listen).
