Just over 5% of social workers have met continuing professional development registration requirements as the three-month renewal period opens. Council social worker numbers have increased in Scotland but there are concerns over rising shortages of mental health officers. There were 5,666 full-time equivalent (FTE) practitioners working for Scottish authorities as of the end of 2021, a rise of 200 (3.7%) on the previous year, according to the Scottish Social Services Council’s (SSSC) annual workforce data report published this week.
