White Supremacist and My Anger

July 28, 2022

I posted about the Papal visit and hoping well for Indigenous Peoples on another Facebook page – a community page.

It drew a racist comment in response to my use of the word genocide. The person wanted me to prove it. It was presented as a demand and insinuated I didn’t know what I was talking about. It felt provocative and bullying in style.

I checked out the person’s own Facebook page. It was an homage to white supremacy racist perspectives.

I knew better than to reply given the person posting. I wasn’t about to be sucked into someone’s racist vortex.

Being a community page, but private, I couldn’t delete the person’s comment. I chose to delete my post instead as I didn’t want the racist comment to stand and I didn’t want a thread of replies from anyone else. It would detract from my original message, positive and supportive of Indigenous Peoples and in particular residential survivors and their kin.

I did repost another post about the Papal visit, only this time, I turned off the capacity for leaving comments. I had control over that. That post wasn’t going to be sullied by another white supremacist.

All of that was three days ago. It has taken me the past three days to check my anger. I’m still working on it.

My anger is about hate unleashed in recent years. Hate, fully out of the closet. Discrimination, unchecked. Bias in full bloom. My hate is about the willful ignorance of those seeking to erase history in favor of personal advantage and privilege.

My anger is about those who would pretend that the atrocities perpetrated against Indigenous Peoples still need be argued.

That ship has sailed.

Indeed, done well or not, even the Pope acknowledges abuses and atrocities perpetrated through the residential school system.

Indeed, we also have the 60’s scoop still to fully contend with and there continues to be missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls, and then of course there is the ever-growing number of unidentified graves of Indigenous children. To add, there continues to be issues of drinking water for many Indigenous persons and child welfare still needs reform in most jurisdictions.

My message to white supremacists, you get over it!

Go back to your country of origin if anyone needs to go.

Your day is over.

Yeah. I’m still angry.
