Patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension rarely receive palliative care.

A study in Respiratory Medicine found that palliative care can benefit patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and help patients cope with the significant physical and psychological symptoms of chronic PAH. The authors found that 5.8% of adult patients enrolled in the Pulmonary Hypertension Association Registry received palliative care referrals, and 48% of referrals came in the last visit before the patient's death.
