According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, suicide is ranked as the second primary cause of death in young people among the ages of 10 to 34 and the tenth most frequent cause of death in the United States. Since 1999, the suicide rate has increased more than 30 percent, with a 10 percent increase among individuals ages 15-24 (National Institute of Mental Health, 2022).
