Supporting the Education Assistant is in Everyone’s Interest

March 28, 2022

I am of an age when the educational assistant used to work only on behalf of the student to which they were assigned.

In so doing the EA was to facilitate the student’s academic achievement as best as possible.

Nowadays, the EA is often an agent of control on behalf of the administration to keep the assisted student and other disruptive students from disturbing the other non-identified students.

In today’s environment, if and when the EA can facilitate a student’s actual education beyond just managing behavior, it’s a bonus.

Hence so many kids who require the assistance of an EA are more apt to be further and further behind academically.

This leaves the student, come “graduation”, which is actually more like aging out of the school system, less capable of managing independently as an adult.

This outcome further disables the child come adulthood and also financially burdens society. It is so short-sighted.

We need a government in power who understands that the investment in meeting the needs of all children is not only an investment in the child, but all of society.

We need a policy that supports public education with more well paid EAs available to students.

Let EAs do what they are meant to do, enable the academic achievement of the student.

That will not be a conservative government.

Next election, please vote “ABC,” Anyone But Conservative.

It all starts at home….. all the support in the world will not matter if the parents aren’t on board and don’t participate in their education training and knowledge…..
respect of elders, and adults needs to return en made.
We now have two generations of dysfunctional families who feel it is all someone else responsibility ….
