The NHS remains “heavily reliant” on inappropriate out-of-area mental health hospital placements despite a government target to eliminate them by March 2021, psychiatrist leaders have warned. People spent almost 206,000 days in such placements in England in the year since the target passed, at a cost of £102m to the NHS, found an analysis of NHS Digital figures published yesterday by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

Over 40% of social work staff have faced abuse from public this year, finds survey

Over 40% of social work staff in the UK have faced abuse from service users, their families or members of the public this year, research has found. The finding came from new UK-wide research by UNISON , in which 41% of almost 3,000 respondents working in children’s and adults’ services said they had received verbal abuse at work during the first weeks of 2022.
