He was 27 years older than her. After my mother left, my father abused me. I was courageous; I found my mother and told her. Her reaction confirmed this was not supposed to happen.

Emotional permanence is a term I recently heard for the first time. It has to do with believing in emotions even when they can't be seen. This concept is taken from object permanence which is the understanding that objects exist even when they can't be seen. When I read the term, I realized that I have problems with emotional permanence. I also realized that not having a consistent sense of emotional permanence was a major cause of anxiety.

It failed and saved me in equal measure. In adult life, I returned to it as a social worker. I know its flaws and its potential to change lives. The sector is stretched and underfunded.

The system is in crisis and profiteering providers are making it worse. The case for reform could hardly be clearer There are 80,000 children in the care of local authorities in England. At the current rate of growth of 2% a year, the figure will be 100,000 in a decade. If removing more and more children from their families was producing good results in terms of preventing harm, and setting them up for life, that would be one thing.
