Treatment for Borderline Personality Disorder

June 19, 2023

If you have been diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder, it doesn’t mean you don’t quite have a personality. It does mean though that you have some fragilities.

Among those fragilities is often a fear of abandonment.

Thinking someone is upset with you may trigger thoughts they will then leave you. That can feel overwhelming.

With that you may inadvertently put up with the bad behavior of another just so that you won’t be left alone.

Alternatively, you may seek to end a relationship quickly on your terms before the other may leave you. However, with this, you may then find yourself rebounding back, uncomfortable being alone.

In both cases, your fears can create remarkable drama. The feelings can be tremendously intense.

Now, imagine if your partner has a Narcissistic Personality Disorder.

With wanting you to feed their sense of superiority your vulnerability is ripe for exploitation. All they need do is threaten to leave you and this can cause you to acquiesce to their demands.

To manage such a relationship, you must work on yourself.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy is seen as the most helpful therapeutic approach to learning how to manage if diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder.

It is a specialty.

With that you will learn to manage the intensity of your feelings as well as recognizing them when triggered. That allows you a better capacity to choose how to respond to situations.

Life with a diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder can be so challenging.

Learning to cope, manage and improve your capacity to respond more appropriately and reasonably helps lower the drama.

It’s work. It’s worth it.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy.
