COVID-19 has affected the world and its societies at unprecedented levels. Ever since the first few cases were reported in the US, things have been spiraling out of the control for both governments and healthcare authorities alike.
A lot of families have lost their loved ones while others are dealing with the long-term side effects of the virus. It’s not as easy for them to adapt to the new normal that others are embracing.
No Break for The Healthcare Industry
While the COVID case number are still making headlines, the healthcare industry is still dealing with a whole suite of medical emergencies on a daily basis. The pandemic and its high contagion rate have meant that healthcare structures have been overwhelmed in ways we haven’t seen in modern history.
As hospitals started filling up with COVID cases, treatments for many of those who were already sick had to take a back seat. Recovery programs and routine healthcare was disrupted, and many important but non-urgent services had to be halted.
Now that the pandemic is slowly receding, not only do the hospitals have to deal with the long-term effects of COVID in patients but also with the healthcare backup that has built up over the past 2 years. This means there’s an urgent demand for more doctors, nurses, and other health care workers, case managers, and caregivers.
Too Many Uncertainties and An Increasing Percentage of Vulnerable Population
COVID-19 is still very much a reality and has had a lasting impact on our lives and livelihoods. It has huge socio-economic impacts, many that may not even be evident at the moment but will affect societies in the coming years.
As a result, there is a lot of work for nonprofits and welfare organizations. There are children who’ve lost parents, there are families who’ve lost their breadwinners and there are seniors who’ve lost their caregivers. All of these people need an incredible amount of physical, monetary, and social support to move forward.

Naturally, for those who work in hospital settings or social services both governmental and nonprofit, their caseload is going to be insurmountable moving forward. So not only does America need more case managers but we also need existing case management to improve.
In the post-Covid era, there is a rising demand to manage increasing caseloads more efficiently. Technology, such as case management software, can play a vital role in the delivery of services to vulnerable populations.
