I think I’ve got OCD…What should I do?

In layman’s terms, most people conceptualise having OCD as being particular, methodical, a clean freak or likes certain numbers. In actual fact, OCD, which stands for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, is a debilitating condition that interferes with daily activities and causes significant distress. OCD, as its name suggests, is made up of obsessions (excessive worries or concerns) and compulsions (repetitive behaviours or thoughts to prevent obsessive fear from happening).

People with OCD find it difficult to control what they are obsessed by, and feel a compulsion to complete those acts, even if they know in reality the rules they believe in are not true. This process can take hours of a person’s day. You don’t have to suffer in silence anymore as OCD is a treatable condition.

Exposure and Response Prevention is the gold standard of treatment for OCD. Depending on the severity of your condition, you may or may not be recommended to commence pharmacological interventions alongside cognitive strategies.

If you’re unsure if you have OCD, please reach out to your GP for a Mental Health Treatment Plan, and to our team at Prosper Health Collective. With a valid referral, our team of trained psychologists will conduct an assessment to determine if in fact you have OCD, the severity of your condition, and to discuss treatment options with you.

At Prosper Health Collective a numebr of our psychologists are experienced in treating OCD. We look forward to you contacting us and working with you to help you manage your OCD symptoms.
