New York Giants’ football player, Nick Gates, dons National CASA/GAL logo on gameday cleats

NEWS

Nick Gates of the New York Giants football team wore custom-designed cleats highlighting the National CASA/GAL logo as part of the NFL’s My Cause My Cleats initiative. According to the NFL, “Players have the opportunity to pick a cause that is important to them and represent their chosen organization on custom-designed cleats.”

Gates donned the CASA/GAL cleats on Sunday, December 4, 2022, at 1:00 pm ET/10:00 am PT, when the NY Giants played the Washington Commanders. Gates’ support in wearing the CASA/GAL cleats aimed to bring awareness to the National CASA/GAL mission and critical need for additional CASA/GAL volunteers across the nation.

In a post from the Eighth Judicial District Court in Clark County, Las Vegas, Nevada, Gates stated, “I’ve always had people in my corner advocating for me. I want to pay-it-forward and spotlight the huge need for CASA volunteers to advocate for abused and neglected kids. In my hometown of Las Vegas alone, there are over 3,200 children in the child welfare system who need a CASA volunteer to speak for their best interests.”

Gates was recently added back to the NY Giants roster in October 2022, after he sustained severe leg injuries in the 2021 season and recovered from seven surgeries. After over a year of healing and hard work, in November, the NY Giants awarded the Ed Block Courage Award to Gates. The award honors “NFL players who exemplify commitments to the principles of sportsmanship and courage.” Players from every NFL team vote for the recipient who then becomes an “Ambassador of Courage” for children who have experience abuse, neglect and violence.

Nick Gates’ comeback from a potentially career-ending injury and his dedication to helping children is an inspiration. National CASA/GAL is honored that Gates selected to broaden awareness of CASA and GAL programs across the nation through My Cause My Cleats. Leaders from CASA programs in Las Vegas and New York City were thrilled to cheer Gates on in-person during the game.

Gates’ custom cleats are also featured on the NY Giants website. My Cause My Cleats uses the hashtag #mycausemycleats on social media platforms, and Nick Gates can be followed on Twitter and Instagram.

In 2021, Corey Linsley of the L.A. Chargers wore custom-designed cleats with the CASA/GAL logo, and the shoes of former Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ coach, Bruce Arians, displayed a CASA logo in support of local GAL programs in Florida.
